Dear Controlled Substance Prescribing Stakeholder,

Attached is an article regarding 2019 Kentucky legislative changes that mandate electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) effective January 1, 2021.  The article also discusses the steps practitioners may take to request a temporary exemption if they cannot implement EPCS by January 1, 2021.  Notably, practitioners must submit initial exemption requests to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services no later than November 1, 2020.

The Office of Inspector General has posted this article and the EPCS exemption request form to the DEPPB and KASPER public web sites.

If possible, we ask that you also consider distributing the attached article to your licensees or members via email, in a newsletter, and/or by making it available on your public web site.  Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the content. If you distribute the article, it would be very helpful if you could let us know the method that you use and when it is (or will be) communicated. This helps us ensure we have sufficient resources to respond to related emails and phone calls.  Thank you!
